My work is about diversions found in and around the water. I have always loved swimming. Family vacations were spent around water: lakes, oceans and never without a swimming pool. There I would spend hours under the water, diving for pennies, swimming from end to end, and just floating.
Family vacations elicit such fond memories. We loved the attention we had from Mom and Dad. They were relaxed and playful. Under their watchful eye we could bravely jump into the deep end. It was exciting to look for treasures in the sand. These are powerful memories: pruney fingers, finding a perfect shell, chlorine tired eyes, wet swimsuits, warm beach blankets, and the smell of suntan lotion. It is the feeling of these memories I am trying to capture in my work.
